Alan Brubaker, P.E., P.S., is the newest Summit County Engineer. He was sworn in on January 5th, 2009. Mr. Brubaker is the Engineer and Surveyor for Summit County's nine townships. He oversees a budget of $14 million a year with additional money coming from state and federal sources to fund projects. Our engineers are the best! The engineering division is divided into many sections and they oversee critical projects in Summit County. They develop plans for highway improvements and new construction on Summit County roads. The engineers and technicians prepare improvement plans for federal, state and locally funded projects. They also assist townships by preparing plans for township road and aiding with the administrative and bid process.
Survey Section The survey section assists with the review of major road and bridge projects as well as road dedications, road vacations, annexations, and subdivisions. They maintain most road and survey record information in a database. The public can access these records from our website. Allotment Section The allotment section works with developers, engineers, contractors, and others to regulate the design, construction and acceptance of subdivisions. They also coordinate inspections under the Engineer's annual stormwater maintenance program and ensure that stormwater is appropriately managed in allotments. Drainage Section The drainage section coordinates requests, reviews, inspects, designs and schedules improvements to ditches, culverts, storm sewers and other drainage related items for landowners, townships and County maintenance. Bridge Section The bridge section is responsible for the review of bridge inspections, maintenance of the current bridge inventory, development and execution of a bridge maintenance program and developing recommendations for the rehabilitation or replacement of County bridges. Construction Section The construction section's primary responsibilities are to ensure the quality, cost and timeliness of improvements to the County's highways and bridges. This includes everything from obtaining legislative approval to project bidding to construction inspection to completion of the final project. Planning Section The planning section supports and attends meetings of various committees and organizations that affect roads and bridges to ensure that the Engineer's office and planning groups are able to coordinate projects with the communities. Highway Section The highway section is responsible for highway design, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices such as signs, pavement markings, and traffic signal systems/warning flashers. They also conduct the traffic studies and evaluations.
